Hey there...I'm new to this board and have been looking around for days for good information on pickup wiring...I've found a lot of schematics but not much really good info...I even ordered the Torres pickup wiring "book" which was a severe let down...
I'm looking for a diagram to wire up 3 single coils where the 3rd position is dropped to create a N+B setting...I don't want to mess with a neck-on switch or push-pull pots or anything else...just the standard 5-way switch...I drew up a plan of what I think may work but before I start soldering and putting a lot of time into it I'd like to see if someone else has already got it...
I have a Fender SuperSwitch (5 way 4 pole)
I built my own tube amp (AX84 P1Extreme) and have done some mods on there including adding a switched cascode gain stage...I can follow schematics and have the basic idea of what all is going on...I've never messed around with pickup wiring before and am still trying to get it all figure out...
Any help is greatly appreciated!
also if anybody happens to have any tutorials on wiring that would be excellent...I'm just trying to this all straightened out to where i understand what is goin on and how to make things do what i want them to...
thanks!

hi Chrisn, welcome to GuitarNuts2 ...I'm just trying to this all straightened out to where i understand what is goin on and how to make things do what i want them to... you have come to the right place! i'm on my way out the door for the weekend, but i'm sure Sumgai or Chris will be along directly with a history of the stock Strat switch and how it works. that one won't do what you want, but you also have a superswitch. it will. someone here will be able to show you how to do what you suggested, but i imagine after you think about it a while, you may want to re-assess your goals. you might want to also replace a couple of your controls with push-pull pots. one would allow you to change your combinations from series to parallel. the other would allow you to change the phase of one of the pickups selected. or you might want to just keep things as simple as you suggested. at any rate, what you suggested is VERY easy, so you will have little problem understanding how to design your own wiring, once you learn how the superswitch works. i'll check on the progress Monday. 'til then i leave you in the capable hands of the other 'Nuts here. cheers, unk

thanks... yesterday i was in the middle posting a link to the drawing i threw together when my laptop overheated and shut right down... so....here it is : i52.photobucket.com/albums/g34/wcnutt/scan0001.jpgSo i'd pretty much wire the output tabs all together and run that off to the volume pot...i'm thinkin i may just do a master tone because i don't really get much use out of the tone knobs too much anyways...usually just run em wide open i'm cool with running the combo positions in parallel and i've got the phases and polarities of the pickups figured out from the first round of wiring.... i had another plan posted which was fundamentally different...but after looking at it for a while i realized there were some big flaws....then i drew this one up taking a completely different approach....

chrisn, Hi, and to the forums. Your diagram is perfectly good, use it! I also went the master tone route, and completely removed the second tone. I actually mounted the volume pot into the first (or Neck) tone control's hole, used the second (Middle) tone as the master, and filled the original volume pot's hole with a small chrome plug from my local hardware store, so it all looks good, even if not stock. Why? To get the volume out from under my picking hand - it was always in my way! Post a short article of your amp, with pics, in the Amp section, please. Oh, 'arf a mo'....... To make an image display right in the message, use the [img src="...."] tags. Put them around your picture's URL, and all will be as it was ordained. Here's the way it will appear as you type it into the textarea while composing your Post (color added for emphasis): [img src="http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g34/wcnutt/scan0001.jpg"]and of course, here's what it will do when we read the message: HTH sumgai

Hi Chris - welcome to GN2. Your scheme for the superswitch looks fine to me for those basic parallel combos.
cheers
