Hi, I have a problem that I'm hoping you guys can help me with: --335 clone (Oscar Schmidt OE 30) --Deluxe 5E3 homebrew amp with a Tone Tubby ceramic 12. --GFS Dream 180 pups just installed. No idea what the pot impedances or cap values might be, haven't been able to get that info. I know the parts in there are cheap, and I plan to replace everything, but I don't want to open the guitar up until I get some ideas. --The pups have GREAT mid and upper tones, but the excess bass causes woofy unwanted distortion when I bear down on the pick attack on the low E, A & D strings, even at fairly low amp volume. --My Strat with single coils doesn't woof at all, everything else equal, and I can spank it and get real loud, so it would appear to be the OE 30 guitar, or the guitar/amp combination. The guitar and pups sound so good with this amp (apart from this one problem), I'm hoping there's some tweak or mod I can do to get rif of some of the bass woofiness from this guitar. I'd appreciate any suggestions! Jim

Turn down the bass response on the amp.
Try lowering the lower string side of the pickups (but don't go too far, the adjustment screws will come out).
Adjust the pole piece screws on the pickups.
Try different capacitors in series with the guitar signal (0.001 to 0.047 uF).
Find different strings or a mixed gauge set (light on the low strings and heavier on the high ones). On an Epiphone Dot Studio that I had, the E, A, and D strings were boomy.

Hey, ChrisK, holy crap, it's MUCH improved. I had ordered an upgrade beefier bridge from Guitar Fetish, and it arrived today. That helped quite a bit--cheap, and highly recommended. When I also lowered the bass side of the pickups, esp the neck, that helped more. One gauge heavier strings and a minor adjustment on the pole pieces got the buzz down to very manageable levels and cleaned up the tone to where I get both the nice smooth overdrive when I dig in, and big open Fender clean tone when I want it. Once I pull the harness I'll check out pot impedance and cap values, but that guitar sounds SO much better already. Thanks much!
