I'm thinking of a particular wiring diagram for a Warmoth VIP I want to build and was wanting some thoughts from folks with more experience than myself in these matters...
I'm wanting to go with a dual humbucker setup as such:
Each pickup has it's own 3-way toggle switch to select Full/Separated/Parallel configuration
The pick-up selector is a 3-way switch (Neck / Neck-Bridge / Bridge)
Finally going to a single Volume / Tone concentric Pot.
Basically, I'm wanting to get as much versatility out of a 2 pick-up configuration as I can.
Anyone have any tips or thoughts to contribute?
Many thanks, Eric "GuitarEC"

JohnH does this in his take on the Jimmy Page mod. another way would be to drop the 3-way pickup selector, and use 2 DPDT mini-toggles that would also get you the same 4 choices. the other thing you didn't mention is a phase switch for one of the pickups. depending on your taste, this will be a little less or more important than having the 2 pickups in series. cheers, unk

Thanks for the thought - hadn't considered working the pick-ups in series... Something to ponder.
Another thought I had was to mount a small toggle switch next to the cable jack that would act as a mute switch - shorting the signal and ground contacts when switched >ON<.
Being the guitar will have passive electronics, I don't see this as a problem. (Planet Waves makes guitar cables with this "Mute" toggle type button built into the jack) Any thoughts on this as well?

...Another thought I had was to mount a small toggle switch next to the cable jack that would act as a mute switch - shorting the signal and ground contacts when switched >ON<.... sure, that would be useful. your volume control will short the output when you turn it to zero. so the switch isn't needed for that function. but if you want to use it for a "stutter" effect, a swtich would work well. probably use either a pushbutton or a minitoggle with a momentary contact (spring return to off). if you want to get real fancy you could get a DPDT on-off-(momentary on) minitoggle. in the on position the tone control would work as normal, in the off postion the tone control is defeated, and in the momentary on position, you would have a reduction of volume. the amount of reduction would be determined by the setting of the tone control. of course the other way would be to just use a SPDT on-(momentary on) and wire it so the volume control is bypassed in the momentary position. this works a bit differently. when you push the switch, you get an increase in volume, rather than a decrease. so it's just a question of how you want it to operate.
