I'm a noob, I'm in the middle of redoing my telecopy I have had since 1982.
I decided to put in copper shielding tape I got from Stewart MacDonald. I put this in the pot cavity, the bridge pickup cavity (which is contiguous with the pot cavity) and the output switch cavity. I had it in the tailpiece cavity, but took it out because I couldn't get a clean test on the switchcraft jack -- it would ground out half the time on the meter when the cord was inserted.
Now I'm having some troubles with grounding -- I am putting it back together little by little and checking everything with the meter.
This is a 2-humbucker tele setup with the LesPaul style bridge-both-neck output switch above the strings. It has a large pickguard to cover all the cavities.
That LesPaul style switch, great piece of electronics, except that it is pretty large and has 4 exposed tabs the signal lines and ground line solder to, any one of which could very easily make contact with the copper shielding.
I am looking for solutions -- should I tape everything, and if so, with what? I don't want to just start taping everything in sight; like I implied, I think the LesPaul style switch is the culprit right now.
I bet many here have been down the shielding road before. I have been sofar unsuccessful using the search option -- probably ignorance on my part of "what to search for".
Thanks for your time,

Hi dfrank, and welcome to GN2! I'm a noob, I'm in the middle of redoing my telecopy I have had since 1982. Wowsers! If you're a noob, I don't know what I am ... sperm? ;D ..... Now I'm having some troubles with grounding -- I am putting it back together little by little and checking everything with the meter. ..... That LesPaul style switch ..... could very easily make contact with the copper shielding. I am looking for solutions -- should I tape everything ..... Tape tends to fall off (loses it's adhesiveness) over time - so you may be better off with a similar idea, but using something else. For some reason, I am picturing using a little bit of a thin plastic lid of a margarine (or whatever) tub to fashion a bit of a "collar". Perhaps that could be a tidy and permanent solution? Sorry I can't come up with anything better than that. Dan

Dan,
It's a good idea and it seems to be working. Signal and ground now measure as expected with the meter.
Thanks for the help.
