hey to all the experts at GN. I'm building my own guitar, not as in frankenstien-ing a strat, I mean building from scratch raw wood. fun right? So I'm looking on the internet at different wiring setups that have worked in the past and I read that fender put 1M tone pot.s on the deluxe telecaster, the humbucker equipped. The wiki stated that this kept the tone bright when using the hot humbuckers that it was built with. I was wondering if anyone had experience with using 1M pot.s for tone. any info on how that sounds with different pickups, expecially hot-er humbuckers, and overall opinion. any help is appreciated, thanks!

sharpgt,
Generally, the stronger your pot, the brighter your tone, wheter used as a tone or volume pot. This is true because the pot lets less signal reach ground when in the full on position. While I have no direct experience with 1M tone pots, I use 500's in my strat, and like the tone very much.

Generally, the higher value resistance of your pots, the brighter your tone.
Higher values present less loading to the pickups.

Remember, very nearly all pre-CBS Fender quitars used 1MΩ pots, and we all know about the current rage to find and get that particular vintage tone, right? Here's one of the dirty secrets, pure and simple. They were common throughout much of Leo's amplifier circuitry, even before the first Broadcaster in 1951, so he tried one, and it worked as desired. From then on, it was natural to just continue ordering even more of the same. Quantity discounts are. HTH sumgai
