Hi- A) Does anyone have a schemo/wiring diagram for a 3pup LP - 3 vols and 1 tone with a three way toggle that turns on all three pups in the middle position? B) Does anyone know where to find a right angle toggle switch that would work for this?
Hey there- Thanks for your suggestions. Close - but not quite - My need is to switch the middle pup in, not dial it in independent of all other switch settings. That Stew-Mac switch doesn't have enough poles for my configuration (3 vols and 1 tone with a three way toggle that turns on all three pups in the middle position) The toggle has to be 4 pole. I think the appropriate toggle exsisted at one point but then Switchcraft stopped making it. That's probably why the new Gibson SG-3s have a rotary switch (6pos, 4pole) instead of a toggle.
I do believe that you're going to find that switch just a teensy bit difficult to locate.
As it happens, I've never seen an LP (nor an SG, for that matter), connect only one of three pickups, when so equipped. In theory it should be possible, but I've never seen a switch actually built to do that - they all select the middle and bridge pickups in the Middle position. I'm not sure what Gibson's intent was with that, but that's neither here nor there, what's important is what you want.
You may, let me stress that, you may have to build such a switch yourself. That's actually straightforward - simply acquire another switch of the same type, remove all the leaves from it, and add them to your first switch. You'll see that you can remove the screw easily enough, but if it's too short after adding the new leaves, simply buy a longer screw, and re-assemble the whole thing. (The thread is standard, you shouldn't have any problems in that regard.)
What you're actually going to do is stack one complete switch on top of another, or if you prefer, you could think of it as sandwiching them together on a common frame. But the gist of it is, you want the middle pickup to turn on only when the switch is in the middle position. A careful look at the switch itself will suggest to you that your desired function is the exact opposite of the normal way the switch works! Simply by reversing the order of the added-in leaves, you should get the desired results. ;D

Since the StewMac switch for a three pickup LP or SG is mentioned as being identical to a DPDT ON-ON-ON/SP3T Center-ON toggle switch (and it is), said toggle switch will perform the selection as follows:
one thing/both things/the other thing,
any one of three things per position,
one of one thing, that same thing plus another, or a third thing (how the traditional 3 pickup setup works),
however, it can't do what you want.
A 4PDT ON-ON-ON/DP3T Center-ON toggle switch can. It was discussed on this board a little while back and switch types were analyzed for use in different guitars.
If this is what you want, and you intend to use this switch, let me know and I'll post a wiring diagram (for the switch only, the rest is up to you ).
(CLUE: One would use two adjacent poles of this switch to select bridge/both/neck (positional OR structure) and the other two adjacent poles to select nothing/middle/nothing (positional AND structure), and then wire the two groups together.)
