Question about a Sound Garage hex . . .

I'm working on putting MIDI in my Utah, and was going to do piezo and MIDI thru what was originally a tune-o-matic bridge (probably GraphTech's GHOST system). Well, I have since converted my bridge from a tune-o-matic to a one piece acoustic saddle style (much what Abyss does on some of their models).

So, while that makes piezo comparatively and relatively straightforward, I now need another solution for MIDI. That's when I recalled the Sound Garage humbucker.

Anyone know where I can get one of these? Or any other ideas on any other solutions? The one thing I don't want to do is to have a large, clunking Roland pickup on my guitar. I want it all internal, hidden from view, and non-intrusive.

Any thoughts?

Sound Garage pups have a mixed pedigree. Some people like them a lot, others don't have anything nice to say about 'em. I do know that you can get them with a single coil in a standard-sized humbucker case, or there's a version that contains a true side-by-side humbucker and the hex pup in a "triple coil" case, fashioned to look like an oversized humbucker.

As I understand it, Sound Garage was actually from Japan, and had only a few distributors around the world. One of them recently posted that he can no longer carry their wares, they are now out o' business. But, I've seen no other indication of that, so I may be quoting an improperly informed source.

In either case, eBay, craigslist, and other websites (like The Hock Shop in our own NutzHouse) are gonna be your best bet. Don't just look for one, ask around in the Wanted To Buy sections too.

And while you're at it, I might recommend that you investigate Limex, a relatively new MIDI-on-guitar solution. It's not any cheaper than a Roland setup, but it appears to be way ahead of the game, in terms of on-board controlling and/or generating MIDI signals. Plus, they recently brought out a wireless version - how cool is that?!
