Okay, I made this diagram: If you are just replacing the 2 humbuckers with DiMarzio humbuckers then that's why you had a few wires left over. First, for each humbucker, solder the black and white wires together, then tape that connection. (In the diagram I drew the "white" wire as gray because white on a white background doesn't show up too well.) Connect the red wires to the "hot wire" connections where the previous humbuckers went. Connect the green wires where the old humbuckers were connected. That's a lot of information to present to someone who is new to this so I'll wait for your reply.

Thanks for the information I appreciate it.
And sorry for taking so long to reply.... been having computer problems.
I understand that the black and white wires have to be taped together.... that has already been done.
The wiring diagrams that were posted showed what I think I want.
2 humbuckers, a 5 way switch, 500k volume and 500k tone.
I have a 5 way switch.... but it only has 8 loops underneath, unlike the one in the diagram which appears to have 24.
I have a 500k volume pot which is ok.... but the tone pot is a coil switching pot as well.... which I dont think I need. And there is also a middle single coil pickup attached which I would like to remove as I have no use for that sound.
Any more information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

outtathaway I think it is necessary for you to post a link to that wiring diagram. It seems to me if they are showing a 24 pole 5 way switch, it will be used for some rather fancy switching. However, if you want the 2 humbuckers wired in the typical Gibson Les Paul or Gibson SG method, then you won't even need a 5 way switch. You'll only need a SPDT center on switch.
