Hello Everyone, I am finising up a Strat project and it is ready for the wiring. However I need to know if I have to line the entire surface area of the cavities with copper or aluminum self-adhesive tape(I have both). And also the tremolo cavity?I am new at this so any help would be greatly appreciated.

foxhunter,
Hi, and welcome to the NutzHouse! ;D
You should shield all cavities that have anything to do with the signal. IOW, there are no parts or pieces within the vibrato cavity that have anything to do with the signal, so it's not necessary to shield that area.
Most folks feel that doing the output jack's cavity is optional, due to the small cavity area involved. I, however, am of the opinion that wood does not stop electromagnetic hum, so if one does not shield that area too, then one has left an opening for hum/buzz to get into the circuitry, and therefore the guitar won't be at it's most quiet.
I prefer copper myself, but others here like aluminum kitchen foil, either one will suffice for the job at hand.

Thank you very much for your reply,I was going to use self-adhesive tape(either aluminum or copper) does foil work better?I bought a wiring kit(minus the Pick-ups) from Stewert-MacDonald,but did not know if all the shielding was necessary.I really appreciate your help. Foxhunter37

I'm not certain that the adhesive on the copper tape is electrically conductive. You may have to solder the overlapping seams together every inch or so. If the shield isn't electrically common, it may do little. Bullpucky, swamp ash works fine while it's still submerged in the swamp. ......although most humans are not particularly adept at soldering aluminum.
