I am new in this forum, but I have been reading guitar nuts for some time now. I made my custom two volume knobs for my stratocaster and I want to share.
My motivation was: - I do not need two tones - I would like to control the volume of my guitar with a switch (one position a loud volume and other a quieter volume, for mellower parts of the song).
I have two versions. In the first, one volume controls the neck pickup and the other volume controls the middle and bridge pickups. No need to change the appearance of your guitar. In the second version I added a dpdt switch. One volume act like a master volume and the other volume act like a attenuation volume with respect the master, so in one of the switch position you can lower the volume of your guitar with respect the main/master volume.
Here you go, the schematics and the layout, as best as I could do it:
The layout in version 1 is not quite appealing. Just follow the schematics. Sorry for using/modifying the drawing from John S. Atchley, I hope he does not mind (if so, just let me know, and I will delete the files).
The electrical diagram in version 2 does not show the connections too well over the web. Do a zoom in to see it properly, or save the jpg file in your computer.
Of course, shield your guitar and use the capacitor to chassis to avoid DC shocks (check out
Nice job. Damned few first time posters here get a +1, but you certainly deserve it.
My suggestions would only be:
1) Make the first link back into a JPEG file, since a PDF can't be linked via the image tag; 2) Modify your schematic for v2, just remove the text. The blurb to the far left is self-explantory, it's pretty hard to mis-understand the functionality of a switch's common terminal. Also, the paragraph below the drawing is redundant, your explanation in the message itself is sufficient; 3) Go back and edit your post to make all the links into images. (Ask for help if you've never done that before. )
Still and all, good job, good job!
