Im working on a Randall amp head that has a bad input jack. I took the amp apart and saw that the input jack is a stereo jack with 9 pins. Since the old jack is broken I cant tell what pin goes to what and I just want to hook up a stereo guitar jack to it since I have some that are really heavy duty. After looking online I found that it looks exactly like this one here: studiosoundelectronics.com/S-H507.gifDoes anybody know what the 9 different pins hook up to on the jack? Like which pin goes to the tip, sleeve, ect. Also just out of curiousity, why the hell would you ever want to use 9 pins for a jack? Thanks for your time.

cheezy, That jack you pictured is probably a switching unit. One or more pins are normally connected, until a plug is inserted. Conversely, some of them may remain unconnected until the plug is inserted. These pins are very likely not connected to the signal pins at all, but that's conjecture on my part. Without seeing a full front-on view of the pins, I couldn't tell you which pin does what. But the answer is easily found - just remove the whole unit, and use your ohmmeter to make the necessary measurements. Even if the thing is boogered up, you should still be able to take some useful readings. Failing that, you'll need to trace out the connections from the input stage of your circuit, back towards the jack. A schematic would help here, but even better would be a layout drawing. Because of the switching jack, you may end up not being able to use your standard heavy-duty jack. But if that's the case, then look to see if you can get away with hard-wiring the switched circuitry to a default state. What model of Randall amp is this thing? sumgai

The model is a RH200, but now that you mention the switching thing (which makes total sense and I feel stupid now for not thinking of that. lol) I think it may be easier to just order the part. I dont really care that much since the amp is not mine, but I would have liked to have put a better quality jack in it and I wouldnt have had to wait for the part either. Thanks for your help! You guys are awesome!
