Hi everyone,
If you are looking for a minimalist wiring challenge, here's one! I've been sketching out some circuits, browsing the Schematics forum and searching the forum, but as a beginner at elegant wiring solutions, I haven't found what I'm looking for.
I'm working on a project guitar in which I want to have one single-coil (neck) pickup and one humbucking pickup (bridge). I'm also transplanting Line6 Variax guts into it, which take up a lot of room (including where the middle pickup would be) and already include a 5-way switch.
The Variax electronics only use half of the 5-way switch, so the other half is available for use by the passive magnetic pickups. There also may be room for one submini DPDT or similar switch near the magnetic PU volume knob, but I'd rather not put one in if possible; that second volume knob is already crowding the control area.
Is there any way I can get some useful combinations of these two pickups with just half a 5-way switch? I am not using a tone pot for the regular pickups; just a volume.
Combinations I would like, in priority order:
1. (tie) Neck alone 1. (tie) Bridge HB, both coils in series, alone 2. Bridge HB, coil-tapped 3. Neck and (Bridge HB, coil-tapped) in parallel
Anything else is a bonus.
Thank you for your help!
Matt

Here's what I worked out after a good night's sleep. Using only one side of the 5-way switch, it should be able to get these sounds:
5. Neck 4. Neck + coiltapped Bridge 3. coiltapped Bridge 2. coiltapped Bridge 1. Bridge humbucker
...by attaching the Neck to #5, both "middle" HB wires to #3, and Bridge to #1.
Does this sound right to you? I'd test it, but am still waiting for a neck, body, and pickups!
Thanks,
Matt
