Interesting! the notes on the vid describe that he got the design here: www.1728.com/guitar3.htm....which is from our own Wolf's excellent site. Wolf says on his site, that it was designed by Random Hero - I'm thinking thats another RH than the one who first run GN2? John

John, Should be one and the same. JohnA said as much, way back when he first linked to this forum, after shutting down his own (for continued abuse, you might recall). I seem to recall that RH actually did one or two designs, at least that's how I remember them being attributed on JohnA's site. Sadly, I can't re-confirm that. At this time, it appears to me that the original GuitarNuts site has been hacked - every link goes to somewhere else on the web: ebay, musician's friend, other music stores, it's damned disconcerting! sumgai

I found several other video showing mods on youtube. I was wondering if there might be a video showing the Big Ugly mod, or any other from here. I would like to check them out! Thanks

Sumgai-
I, too, noticed the misdirected links on GN1 when I first found the site about a month ago. For example, clicking on the "forums" link takes you to MF. However, I use an add-on to my Mozilla browser called "Colortabs" which opens a new "tabbed" window anytime you visit a new site. So, by closing the MF tab, it left me at the forums page at GN1, where I intended to go in the first place. There I learned the the forums had been transferred here.
So the info is accessible, it's just a pain with all the misdirection. And who knows what evils may be placed on the site in the future? Once hacked, always vulnerable.
Wouldn't it make sense to repost some of the info from the original site here? Like the QtB procedure?

And, sorry, just realized I sort of hijacked this thread. As far as the video goes, I was expecting that the guy would have a N+B combo as that seems to be the one mod every Strat player wants first and foremost.

Indeed it is, the tone being somewhat of a cross between a Tele and a Jazzmaster, with both pups on. Distinct, yet evocative. Highly desirable. sumgai

So the info is accessible, it's just a pain with all the misdirection. And who knows what evils may be placed on the site in the future? Once hacked, always vulnerable. Glad to see it isn't just me. But the fact is, if one suffers in any way whilst surfing a site, then the site is bogus, regardless of what might be done by an individual surfer to overcome the hack(s). Here we open a ball of wax. While I might privately act otherwise, I publicly enforce the intent of the copyright laws of the USA. Thus, it would be a direct violation of John Atchley's rights to summarily copy everything over to this board, even if one (or more) of us were to actually re-write everything before posting it. Such would be a flagrant violation, I'm sure you'd agree. In the court's view, making something accessible, where it was formerly inaccessible, is not a viable exception to the law. Sucks, but we have to live with it. The best that can happen would be for JohnA to willingly give permission for his posted content to be mirrored here. I must defer to any one of you, the members of this community, for taking action in that regard. It's not that John and I have any problems with each other (indeed, we've never communicated at all), it's merely a matter of time and effort to follow through with the project, and then to keep abreast of what's happening "over there", so it can be duplicated here. I'd love to do this, but I know I don't have the several hours a month it's gonna take. Something in my personal life would have to suffer for being neglected, and frankly, I'm not up for that just now. Hopefully you'll all understand, and forgive me. You have my permission to enter into negotions with John Atchley on behalf of the GuitarNutz2 community! ;D sumgai

John HI was aware of that video because it was somehow linked to my website. Since the comments were disabled, I thought the link was broken. So, it is on the notes on the video itself? Anyway, here is the link to Random Hero's original drawing (and you might see the reason why I gave myself credit for redrawing it LOL)

Wolf - yes the info showing your web page address was on the notes panel that pops up to the right of the video. And best wishes to Random Hero for the design - Wolfs drawing of it is worth a credit!
Fireball - I'm not aware of any other videos showing our designs. On some of mine I've posted sound clips however. Those are easy to do.

Hey that's me! Cool!
I actually posted that video because I was selling the Strat, but left it up because so many people seemed to like the mod. Thanks to RandomHero and Wolf for the idea and clear schematic.

So, that is you matt? It is a good mod isn't it? Even though Gibson and Fender have been churning out the same guitar styles (since oh maybe the Renaissance? ;D) they have yet to learn what we at GuitarNuts already know. Having an option to switch a Fender guitar to a series circuit, improves its versatility tremendously. (as the video shows) Having an option to make humbuckers have a brighter sound (parallel wiring or coil cut) will open up a huge tone range for a Gibson. Maybe some day they'll catch on to that fact.

Hi i really want to complete this mod, and being a newbie, I'm abit paranoid about messing my axe up
couple of questions for matt/wolf
wolf's diagram is significantly different to random hero's is the outcome the same? or is it an error?
I noticed the wiring is different, and the switches are different also.
Matt: did you follow wolf's diagram or randoms?

blatant Even though I redrew the diagram, I'll admit I never wired that precise modification. However, it has been on my website since March, 2005 and I would think in all that time someone would have alerted me to any errors. So, basically I'd say it is drawn properly. If you look at the original diagram, RandomHero says that one of the switches only needs to be a SPDT and that's one of the reasons it looks different.
