Hi all,
Can anybody explain the differences I'd hear between wiring a tone control before (ie one the pickup side) or after (on the output side) the volume control? ...or point me to a previous thread...
I was checking the wiring in two Les Pauls and noticed that one had 50's wiring and the other modern wiring. I then noticed a difference in tone control placement, one coming from before the volume, and one after. I can experiment of course, but some technical background would be nice.
TIA

sonics, Hi, and welcome to the NutzHouse! ;D There is an audible difference, albeit a pretty small one. JohnH is the man to answer the question in depth, he's done some testing on this exact scenario. As for previous threads, we've hit on this topic quite a few times in the last few years, but the search terms are too vague for the Search function to be useful. Again, John can probably dig up the basic threads, but I'm sure he'll just give you a good synopsis in the here-and-now. HTH sumgai

Thanks! I look forwarding to reading this.
I have my pots, caps, resistors and iron, so I'm off to experiment!
