Hi! I own Fender VB5 jazz bass, but I have sound problem. When I don't hold string there is background noise an some clicks when I try to touch any metallic part of bass(strings, tuners, bridge, controllers, output jack), but If I hold string or any other metallic part there is no noise or hum. My pickups are SNC - best single coil pickups available! Can some one help me please, I have some gigs very soon so I need to fix this problem. As you know - new bass, new problems Friendly Master

sounds like a grounding problem to me. maybe the strings aren't grounded right. Ive been reading and re-reading the quieting the beast and shielding a tele articles over and over again. it seems that every time i read it i learn something new. At first i thought it was a basic concept, and to be honest, not a very important set of documents. However, now i know better. for the average guitar player (not the average guitar nut) this "modification" is all you will ever need. done right it works incredibly well.

Most common cause for this is bridge not being grounded propoerly. There should be a little earthing wire running from your ctrl cavity into the rear body of the guitar and surfacing under the bridge. Normally the bridge is simply screwed down tight ontot he body dquashing the bare wires of the earthing wire in the process, which grounds it to the rest of the guitar, thus strings are then also earthed. Take the bridge off and check the earth wire is intact under the bridge plate. Replace ifnecessary and make sure the other end is firmly soldered inside the ctlr cavity to a common earthing point.
