Help needed with customising the wiring

Ok i asked on a few guitar forums about this and i was finally redirected here, was told that you guys are uber savvy with switching schems.

Basically run into a problem with rewiring pickups. installed 2 new pickups into an ibanez rg2570e (H-S-H 5-way, 5 way switch volume and tone knob) - air norton (neck) and Steve's Special (bridge). Now i do not know the internals of the 5-way switch to customise which pickups are activated in which position. heres a drawing of what the stock guitar switch functions are and below what i want them to be:


now this is the original ibanez 1570 wiring diagram which is identical to my 2570e wiring:

now i got as far as the image below, can any1 confirm that this will work? is there an easier way of doing what i want to do?

this is my first wiring mod so im not sure if im following the correct procedure but any help with this would be highly appreciated

First off, HI!, and welcome to the NutzHouse! ;D Looks to me like you're gonna fit right in here - that's an ambitious piece of work!


I see a couple of questionable areas......... One, you started off with a nice diagram of positions, both existing and desired. Then you launched an Ibanez schematic, and that was good too. But your intended mods, they don't relate to the first "desired" diagram (the simple one). That begs the question - do you want the fancy version, or the simple one?

Next, if you do want those toggle switches, then we have a problem....... they aren't numbered. Without that, I/we have no way of checking for correctness, we're left to guess which switch does what. As you might imagine, guessing isn't a good thing here....... in fact it can be pretty messy, if the guess is wrong.

Suggestion 1: Show which switch is numbered 1 and 2, so we can relate them to the "selection table"

Suggestion 2: The switches themselves..... there isn't a lot of meaning to simply show wires going into a black box, so to speak. We need to see the inner workings of those switches, and fortunately, there's a simple way to do that. Take a look at the following drawing:



Note how the wires all come from and go to exact points. In the upper left corner are three dots (all in blue), representing a Single Pole, Double Throw switch. (Actually, half of a Double Pole, Double Throw switch.) I can tell at a glance which terminal goes to the other two terminals (depending on which way the toggle handle is set), so I can easily trace the circuitry for each possible switch position. That's what I/we need from you, some way to tell which wire is being switched between the other two wires.

You needn't rearrange your entire drawing to simulate the example, just your two modifications need to be made more clear, the rest is fine.

Suggestion 3: Could you please remove the reference in the lower right corner that says Ibanez? They didn't draw that, so it's not a good thing to let others think that they did. Might cause issues, sometime down the road. I don't think they'll have any problems with you "borrowing" the component parts from their diagram, and re-using them for your purposes, but giving them credit for something you did......

Suggestion 4: You show 20 possible combos (with several dupes, so there're only 14 different ones), yet they're all in parallel, right? You do realize that you can go way down the road here, and get a big variety of tones with series combos, yes? And that's not to mention Out-of-Phase combinations too! So thinking about that, I remembered that one of our members undertook to describe what various combos sound like. You can find it in the first post of this thread:

Yeah sorry mate, like i said its my first attemp, new to this. basically the 4 duplicated diagrams after the wiring diagram show the all possible outcomes using different combinations of 5 way switch and the two Single Pole, Double Throw switches. the variations of activated pickups are part of those diagrams but i drew all the possibilities just in case.

to achive the pickup selection i need i have to flick the 5 way switch in A position double trow switches A and B in poisition 2 and flick the 5 way switch in B position double trow switches A and B in poisition 1. the other 3 positions (C, D AND E) work with the double trow switches A and B in poisition 2 or double trow switch A in position 2 and double throw switch B in position 1.

Ah, much better, thanks! I have to go do some things around the house for awhile (the infamous "Honey-Do" list ), I'll look at it later today, or perhaps late tonight, after my gig.
