I plan to customize a telecaster. shaping the body a bit, new paint job, putting on a new neck (and more importantly headstock), and putting in new electronics. THE POINT: I'm looking for a sound that's brutal and straight forward. I was thinking a single coil sized humbucker, like the hot rails from seymour duncan, hooked to a three way switch set to series/single/parallel and a volume control. no neck pickup, no tone control, just straight forward ball to the wall heavy butt sound. Anyone with experience with this type of pickup or this kind of sound, advice, comments, suggestions, or criticisms would be greatly appreciated.

seems like since it would be sort of one dimensional, with only a bridge pickup.
but if you're going to go that way, doing the series/single/parallel switching will give you more options.
if i were to do this, i'd be much more inclined to have a similar pickup at the neck.
i'd likely use a 5 way blade to do the system switching and a 4PDT to switch both pickups from local series to local parallel (skipping the single mode).
keeping things simple is one thing, but in the case of one single sized HB, you will have little variation in your sound pallate. i doubt the difference between local parallel and single coil will be very noticeable. besides, if you want brutality, you probably also like lots of gain. that means lots of hum in single coil mode.
consider GFS for the pickup(s) if you're looking for some savings over the Duncan.
you can probably get a PAIR of 'lil punchers and a 5way superswitch for about the same cost as one Duncan.
just my $.02

I can't go a single Bridge pup. I have to have that neck pup whether I have a bridge or not. I prefer both.
