is there a way to increase pickup sensitivity without replacing the pickups?
ps: i am mentally challenged as far as any wiring/pickup info

Move them closer to the strings.
Add a preamp.
Play harder!

The more steel a string has will cause higher output. Nickel less output. Also like said in previous post the closer the pickup to the string the more sensitive but beware, too close and the pickup will magnetically affect the strings intonation and vibration. Also it can become muddier sounding.

A metal plate, like Telecaster lead pickups (and some new high end Strats) have will increase the magnets' strength a bit. Increasing a magnet's strength also slightly changes the tone, typically making the pickup a tad brighter.
