Im kind of liking that humbucker look. You know, the one where one coil is white and the other is black. Does this mean anything?....Is this done for a reason or just for looks?

The coil cap covers are usually not indicative of any certain "right" or "wrong" installation, unless they are installed in correspondence with the "slug" polepieces and the "screw" polepieces in some humuckers. Those, typically, are installed with the screw side of the bridge model toward the bridge, and the screw side of the neck model toward the neck.

Feldergarb! The white coil picks up the whole notes and the black coil picks up the sharps and flats.

whole notes vs. sharps and flats? sounds like a mixed metaphor, if ever i heard one. i was gonna ask what happens if you play a flat for 4 counts (whole note in 4/4)..... .......but i guess we'll just burn that bridge when we get to it.

So if you cut to a single coil, you can only play in the key of C major? J

Infidels! OK, I guess that I was stuck in the frequency domain and neglected the time domain (Z). So how would one say that the white coil picks up the notes that correspond to the white keys on a piano and that the black coil picks up the notes that correspond to the black keys on a piano without having to say all of that?

like this: Feldergarb!
The white coil picks up the naturals and the black coil picks up the sharps and flats.

Does this mean anything?....Is this done for a reason or just for looks?
Deep: While I can't quote chapter and verse (or URL), I recall reading that Gibby had a bunch of white ones and a bunch of black ones and just randomly mixed the bobbins. When guitarist started stripping the covers to copy Jeff Beck's Les Paul, they started discovering the dirty little secret. There is no functionality differences in the different colored bobbins. Now it, like many flourishes in todays guitars, is merely fashion. If you like it, wear it.

Thanks. Gosh darned semantics! I dunno, what do you think? It would have been funnier (or perhaps funny) if'n I knew the right word fer the naturals.
Well, DiMarzio has a utility patent on the use of cream and black bobbins (or maybe cream bobbins) methinks.

....Of all of the things that I've lost, I miss my mind the most.... Do yourself a favor, don't get old. I studied music theory in elementary school, in the early to mid 60's. I'm not a musician, but an analyst. I like both ends of the music spectrum, the theory of how the instruments work and listening to music. The part in the middle sorta bores (and amazes) me. Usually when I made a mistake no one caught it. This one was glaring.
