i have been given a columbus les paul shape guitar nead to re attach the neck but i cant find anything about the guitar there is no serial number on it and i cant find anyone who has heard of columbus I'm surprised anyone would admit they've never heard of Columbus. Why, it's a party town second only to Toledo: "They've got entertainment to dazzle your eyes Go visit the bakery and watch the buns rise." (--Randy Sparks) Okay, all kidding aside, let me first ask if you're planning to re-attach the original neck, or replace it with a new (kit) one? And are there any stripped screw holes involved? Whether you repair or replace it, I'd suggest getting a copy of Dan Erlewine's Guitar Player Repair Guide from Stewart-MacDonald. www.stewmac.com/shop/Books,_plans/Building_and_repair:_Guitar,_electric/Guitar_Player_Repair_Guide.html I think with your prior furniture-making experience and that book for a reference, it shouldn't be too tough a project. (He said confidently, since he wasn't the one doing it. ) If you want to bolt a kit neck on there, that brings up other issues, and I have a couple more sites for you to check out. -- Doug C.

Apparently it was more lame than I realized. I think we're actually in a forum section intended for guiter reviews, but before bailing out, I'll mention that I'm waiting for my "new" Memphis LP copy (bolt-on neck) to arrive. Hardly anybody's ever heard of those, either.

Memphis guitar were originally sold thru the Saint Louis Music company (SLM), and made over in Japan by the late, great Matsumuko Company. Uncle Matts, as we lovers of these Japanese beauties call them, are for the most part, good copies. I've seen 2 Memphis Paul copies and both were quite good for being plywood, (Oh, 'scuse me "laminate" for those politically correct and were begging for a rebuild! One thing however, some of the humbuckers, well, aren't. Metal covered humbucker sized pickups, with just a single coil in them! Still sounded good though.
