The one great advantage of that Les Paul model over all the others is that it has open-coil humbuckers. This might not make a difference to a lot of people but it means a lot to me. Since you are here at GuitarNuts, I have a feeling that you might want to rewire your guitar someday. If you bought any other Les Paul model (and I could be wrong) it would come with those chrome-covered, epoxy-filled, sealed for eternity "brick" pickups. So what's the big deal? If you want options for coil cut or parallel wiring, forget it. You will need a 4 wire cable coming out of that pickup. You cannot get at those "bricks" without completely destroying the pickups. You can access an open-coil humbucker and make it a 4 wire model and here's how: www.1728.com/guitar1a.htm It's tricky but it can be done. (I have converted many humbuckers to 4 conductor wiring.) Now maybe you can be very happy with the Les Paul sound with any model. Just remember, if you want a brighter sound, you need to buy new pickups. Is it important? Ask yourself, why do Jimmy Page, the late Frank Zappa and even Les Paul himself all have extra switches on their Les Paul guitars? Makes you think huh?
