I have a nice old Fender Twin Blackface (unsure of the year), and I use it as my main amp. What concerns me is the lack of groundwire in the power cord. What is the best way to add/place to connect one?
The cord is mighty old and I have already shorted the thing out and blown a fuse; please help me save my amp from me...
thx.

I imagine the answer is around here somewhere, but as the search function of proboards is not always operable, a quick google or Ask search will do (and save gobs of typing). This is pretty much what I did with my 50's era tube P.A. when I first got it 23 (egad!) years ago. Of course, you may have other damage now...better the amp than yourself. Dying via the "Blue Flame" can't be fun.

hi Pkv, Welcome to GuitarNuts2 ...The cord is mighty old and I have already shorted the thing out and blown a fuse; please help me save my amp from me... sounds more like we need to save you from your amp......or at least from your cord! if the cord got so bad that it arced before you got around to replacing it, that should be a wake-up call. have you checked your brakes lately? don't wait 'til the car in front of you, is the only thing keeping you from rolling into the intersection! extention cords can be had for very few $. usually for less than buying a length of 3 conductor power cord and a plug for the end. cutting one to an appropriate length, means that you don't even need to connect the plug to the end, because the plug is already there. the orange or green ones don't really look too good emerging from an amp. but often, black or gray are available. the article ux4484 linked to is good info. they discuss removing the "death cap". while it isn't absolutely necessary to do so, i would. good luck.........................and be careful out there! unk

that's what I was looking for - thanks to you both, this makes it very clear. I have done some electrical work before, so it shouldn't be a problem, and may my power cord neglect be forgiven... and thanks for the welcome

I have a '74 Vibrochamp that had the same problem. The original cable was just like 18 gauge lamp cord. When I changed to a grounded power cable I also wired in a polarity switch which helped eliminate some of the AC hum I'd run into occassionally. Also, consider putting a cable clamp inside the cabinet for a strain relief if there isn't something like that already. Happy modding. Carl
