I recently purchased a VOX AD30VT. Great amp so far, but I'm still testing it out. My two main guitars are a stock Gibson Les Paul Studio and a MIM strat that's been gutted and rebuilt thanks to the original guitarnuts forum. Both guitars sound great on my old amp. I live in an apartment now, so a 50W all tube is just too loud. I picked the VOX because of it's size, sound and built in attenuator.
Anyway, here's my problem: The les paul is awesome clean, but the low end goes to hell with moderate to heavy gain. It sounds like a big muff pedal with the tone all the way down. The tone is real muddy with a lot of fuzz. Weird thing is that the strat has a seymour dunan lil 59er mini-humbucker in the bridge. Normally sounds very close to the les paul bridge humbucker. No problems with the strat. I can cut the bass on the amp all the way back to fix it, but then the highs sound like I'm playing in a tin can.
Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know. I have the AD50VT and don't especially notice anything like that. I did notice that the ""Bassman"" 4x10 and ""Twin"" 2x12 models were close to reality (well, at least the reality of the tube amp instances that I have).
Which amp models are you using on the VOX, and which amp are you comparing it to (your old amp model).

which amps have the problem: almost any amp with mid to high gain except the AC-15 and AC-30. The 4x10 is the worst of it. Palm muting is lost and turns to mud with any of the UK amps. amp I'm comparing it to: Crate VC5212. It's 50W all tube. It's in their vintage club line. It's not a super high gain amp, but has enough for me. Here's a link to the crate amp: www.crateamps.com/html/product.cfm?pid=73Thanks.
