I was having a musicians ummm argument about Randy Rhoads. In my opinion he used mostly lydian scales in his work with Ozzy...correct? Not exclusivly, but most of the time.

i don't know, man... it seems like he used several different scales, but yeah... he also liked building off of other minor modes, though...

deepblue,
The Lydian scale in which mode? Or do you mean that he used the Lydian mode for the key he was in?

He used a lot of minor, some harmonic minor, and some tritones - that whole "gothic" thing. Lydian has the tritone from the root note - the 4th is sharped. Maybe that's what your pal was hearing. But Lydian also has a major third and is overall a "major" sounding mode, and most of Randy's stuff was minor (or a variation). I was never into figuring out everyone's solos, so I can't say for sure what all he used, but I'd bet there was a lot more minor, phrygian, and locrian stuff there.
