Welcome to the boards:
I'm a TM fan too - he's very talented and unique. I assume you already know that he's outfitted most of his guitars with on/off switches for that stutter effect he does so well.
I also assume you're referring to that screaming, greasy, queasy, shifty sound in the outro solo. If you want to get anywhere near there you're going to need a DigiTech Whammy Pedal. That, and the aforementioned stutter are the staples of Tom's effects arsenal.
He don't use much but that switch, the DigiTech, a Dunlop CryBaby, a Boss distortion (DD2 I think), and an old Ibanez flanger.
Good luck.

actually his guitars are wired like les pauls w/ 2 volumes. he turns the neck to 0 and the bridge to ten and switches between to create the stutter effect. however and on/off switch would acomplish the same effect. in any case, it's nice to know that i'm not the only one who appreciates morello's unique and inventitive playing style:>

tom is a god amoung men. another way to get the studder but have more flexablitity. is to do a blast button. it would have to be momentary. but how it works is i you set your volume to say, 1. if you hit the button, it will jum to full volume. this means that you can do it w/ all kinds of volumes(toms way would work also cause of the 2 vols.)

in the august 07 edition of guitar world, they interviewed tom. along w/ had him do some audio files and lessons. give me a few days and i will try to scan the articles onto my comp and post them. otherwise, go pick up a copy and it has a cd to put in your comp. the lessons are on there.

Tyler, Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but if you do this, then you open up this forum to accusations of copyright violation. Better would be to point a link to wherever this stuff might already be posted - let them take the heat, not us GuitarNutz. It's too bad that even after several months, GW won't post the contents of an old issue, only a teaser to get you to subscribe to the dead-tree edition of their rag. Which only strengthens my point.... they will likely take a dim view of your proposition, should they happen to find out. But I like how you're thinking! ;D sumgai

ahh again you save me sumgai. i didnt even begin to think of the repurcussions that this could cause. i wish there a mag that would post their stuff. it would make a great forum thread. as far as theory and tabs go that is. i dont use tabs often, but you always know that the ones in the mags are damned close to right. they would just be a nice addative to the community i think. well, give me a bit, and i will try to find the full article. if i cant, all i can tell you is to pick up the back version of it.
