My gold Squier strat that I put GFS pickups in. About a year ago I shielded it with copper foil. This was a labor of love because the pieces were individually cut, put in place with two sided tape and then soldered together at the seems all the way around. The picture below is of course the headstock. To dress it up a little I taped the back and sides off and applied about 6 or 7 coats of spray clear coat. Since that picture was taken it has started to darken and looks nice. Below is my finished guitar that sounds and really plays nice. It's wired like a John Mayer Strat (bridge pickup can be adjusted with tone pot), It has Fender 250 pots and 5-way switch. I added a Radio Shack on/off switch to cut the neck pickup on and off when I want with the bottom pickups, and it runs with a .047 orange cap from Radio Shack. Below are the GFS pickups used and for those considering buying a set this is exactly they way they look when up pack out of that box, plus you get a wiring sheet with cap suggestions. They well covered in bubble wrap. Finally, I started this with a brand new Squire Standard Strat and when I add up everything I used on this project it comes to $218.89 and that includes the guitar, pickups, switches, pots, foil, clear coat, everything. Look for a solid bargain guitar to start with and you can have a killer playing and sounding ax for not a whole lot of money and the best part is the fun of putting it together yourself. It all started one day when I found the original Guitar Nuts site while just checking different sites for guitar info.

A couple of weeks ago I bought a Squier Strat Affinity series in sunburst for £43 ( $70 ) from ebay.
The seller was a schoolboy of about 17 or 18 (you would probably call him a college kid) and lived locally so he delivered it at no cost.
Typical story. He was going to be the next rock and roll legend, bought guitar, amp etc and gave up after a few weeks.
His loss = my gain.
I cleaned off the dust, fitted new strings, reset the action and intonation and an hour or two later had a lovely sounding guitar.
Apart from one minor nick in the paintwork on the underside it seems perfect.
If I ever get any good at playing it, I might upgrade the electronics. ;D
