Like I said earlier, I don't care for black, so sometimes, when the mood strikes I refinish. Here are a couple of examples. Yea, I know, ugly. But bulldog ugly, which is cool! It's a mid 80's Lotus neck thru, with the original MK45 Matsumoku pickups, and the factory phase switch. Now if I can remember to get rid of those stupid plastic knobs.... 1990 Ibanez S540. How dare they cover that mahogany with black paint!!! Birdge pckup is a Ibanez INF4, and just ooozes warmth! a 1985 Westone Dimension IV. All orginal, except for the finish of course. The push/pull knobs are coil tap, mid pickup on, and phase. She's GREAT for doing jazz chords on! And of course, how many black Mockingbirds have you seen? This is done is a purple pearl swirl, stained a bit darker fretboard, with Duncan clone pickups. Actually sounds kinda sweet.

Here's the same picture I posted in "Post Your Black Guitar" thread... The one on the far left is an old Peavey Raptor. It started off all black. I sanded it down, stained it Red Oak, and added the faux burst finish with a spray can of black lacquer...

Hey mlrpa, That Lotus has original MMK45's? Was it made by Matsumoku?

I'm a big fan of Uncle Matt guitars. I don't think I've had any 45's though. My current favorite is a PE-R60 with MMK53's. ;D

Did you use the img tags? It's the last choice listed to the right of your photo on photobucket. Just copy and paste into your post. Preview it to double check.

While your link links to your photobucket account, it does NOT include a file name.
{img]http://s293.photobucket.com/albums/mm43/lpf3guitars/[/img]}
{img]http://s293.photobucket.com/albums/mm43/lpf3guitars/filename.ext[/img]}
({ is really [ and } is really ].)
Under each picture there are four address boxes. Use the lowest one.
Go to the photobucket folder that contains the picture:
Right click on the "IMG Code" field under the picture:
Hit "Ctrl C" (copy)
Go to your post (while you're editing it), position the cursor where you want the link, and hit "Ctrl V" (paste).
This is easier if you use two browser instances.

ChrisK- Thanks ,( as usual ) I had made it harder than it had to be , I guess....... Anyway , here goes......... I wish I had before pic's - it didn't look bad at all in black , maybe a little "uptown " for my taste . For the color I mixed a little amber shellac in my lacquer.... ...went over that with clear . The electronics are pretty simple - Stew-Mac Golden Age HB's , the front 2 knobs are push-pull pots for coil tap on each pup , as well as master vol. & master tone . The back 2 knobs are " dummies " just there to fill holes . The original 'guard is black , I made this one out of a Warmoth blank . Next time I change strings I'll make a bone nut & that's it , I'm done . 'Bout time , too , I've been workin' on this way too long....it was a lot of fun but I'm sooooo glad to be finished . I oughta plus 1 the whole forum for all the help , both directly & indirectly ........... thanks much , guys . -lpf3 ,

Nice refinishing job, too, looks well done.

newey- It's an Ibanez Artstar . I don't know how old it is , my son gave it to me as a birthday present & he bought it used . Thanks , actually it was a tough job.....twice I decided I didn't like it & washed it all off with steel wool & lacquer thinner More than once I thought , next time I want a certain color I'll just buy one .....but then I wouldn't be a Nut , would I ? Here's one of the colors I didn't like ( messy garage & all lpf3

Kramer XKB-20 Bass It used to be black. Then it was white, splattered with yellow & blue. Then I got sick of looking at it. Now it's back to its original finish with a layer of grunge sanded off, looking better than it ever did when I first got it.

Wow... an actual thumb rest above the strings...not very common...did you add it?

My '62 Jazzmaster was originally Dakota Red, but it got sprayed Chartreuse and then black over top of that by the previous owners before I bought it in '77. The different paints reacted with each other and the finish was cracked and flaking. One day in the early '80s I got fed up with it, stripped it off and re-finished it clear with a little bit of light stain.

Wow... an actual thumb rest above the strings...not very common...did you add it? Yes I did. For some reason I always liked those things (and putting it on the treble side always seemed absolutely useless to me).

Thumbrest on the treble side sounds like bass ala Paul McCartney.
He's the only person I really ever noticed playing with their thumb.
Then again, he's really a guitarist.
Then again, again, he was dead this entire time, so it's a wash.
