I think it's a good idea if you need to change tuning radically. I found this thing called a Schaller Trem-Stop a few years ago that I have on 3 or 4 Floyd Rose equipped guitars. www.schaller-guitarparts.de/1231.htmIt gives me enough stability for double-stop bends not to go out of tune, and that's really all i was looking for. It's very quick to engage/disengage. It won't keep the guitar in tune if you break a string though. Better than free floating but it'll still be out of whack.

i use a rockinger blackbox. it is pretty good device, double-stop bends won't go out of tune and you still can upbend with the whammy bar (although not as heavy).

the best way to not go out of tune when using a tremolo but still not paying too much money is to buy a locking nut

actually you would pay much more money that way: you'll need to route the neck and you'll need a new vibrato with fine tuners. easier to buy a new guitar already equipped with floyd rose. rockinger blackbox costs only 15 euros, though. that thing works like the ibanez backstop.
