I'm sure this is pretty common with whammy bars, but my strat is having problems staying in tune when I do any divebomb stuff. It's only been doing this recently... and only with the G string. I've tried oiling the saddles... and I have locking tuners... it's definitely a problem with the bridge. I'm not sure how to fix this... any help would be appreciated from this guitar n00b.
Oh yeah... it's a modern 2-point trem FYI.

matt, Oh? And the nut can't possibly have anything to do with this problem?
If your bridge and tuners are stock, then should I/we assume that you've upgraded the nut? If it's still the stock unit, then you could do worse than to start by replacing that puppy.
And just for the helluvit, what kind of strings are you using, and gauge?

I"m absolutely sure it is not the nut... mostly because I can pop the string out of the nut and it staoys at the same pitch... just how LSR nuts work. I'm using Dean Markley Blue Steels 10 gauge.

matt, Sorry, but that's pretty confusing....... You say that popping the string out of the nut, the string stays at the same pitch. Does that mean that you can't raise or lower the pitch with the whammy bar, or that the string goes to the same out-of-tune pitch after dive-bombing for dollars? And I don't expect anything from LSR nuts, I've never owned one, so I have no clue about them (other than they are roller nuts of some sort or other). But don't take my word for it, others here have expressed dismay at various kinds of nuts, including rollers, that don't keep the string in tune after a deep bend. Me, I'm using a Graphtech Trem-nut, but only because it came with my Graphtech saddles. And I also use DMBS 10's, and I can't make them go out of tune, not even by leaving the guitar in the truck overnight! (Of course, now that I've said that, Mr. Murphy will probably come calling tonight..... sigh.) I can dive from low E down to A (a full fifth), with no problems.... tuning-wise. There's gotta be something more going on here, let's see what some of the other Nutz have to say.......... sumgai

I have a couple of questions matthew...
1) Do you have string trees?
2) Is your bridge "floating" or can the whammy bar only go down?

Actually... I fixed the problem... just as simple as readjusting the trem angle... simple enough. I guess it didn't have enough "kick back"... I don't know what you call it. Thanks for your help guys. Again, I know I'm a total noob.

Well, that's what we strive for, helping people to help themselves through the hard times. Glad to hear it worked out for you. Being a "total noob" does NOT give you permission to go away and never come back! You are required to visit the NutzHouse at least once a day from now on, until your fingers fall off from too much whiskey, women and song, not necessarily in that order! ;D sumgai
