Hello, new member here. I would like to add a master vol. control to my stock 2002 SG standard. I'm not sure how to set this up but I think it would be a good mod, kinda like many Gretsch models that have a volume for each pup and a master volume as well. Any help, suggestions or schematics would be greatly apreciated.
Thanks

It's actually fairly easy to do. Just take the wire that goes to the output jack hot and connect it to the hot lug on the new volume pot. Connect the wiper lug of the pot to the output jack. Don't forget to connect the return/ground lug of the pot to signal ground.
I'm not entirely sure why one would want to do this. I have several vol/tone/vol/tone guitars and have never felt the need for an additional volume pot. An SG (mahogany/middy) is not a Gretsch (?maple/bright).
Also, do you have room for an additional pot? This mod will reduce the trade-in value as well (holes in the wood aren't nearly as forgivable as holes in a pickguard).
You might also want to try a blend pot with a master volume.

Thanks, that should do the trick. one of the reasons im interested in this mod is because the tremolo arm kinda makes volume adjustments mid song a little awkward. Also, i'm not planning on ever parting with this instrument so effects on resale are inconsequential to me.
Thank you very much for the help/advice. I appreciate it.

Yeah, the concept is fairly straightforward, you just "wrap" the total guitar wiring with a typical volume pot circuit.
