could i change my tone pot on my tele for a MASTER VOL for the BRIDGE?
Well, first of all, if it's only on the bridge pup, it's not a "master" volume, it's a separate volume for the bridge. The volume knob you have on there already is a master volume.
Obviously, this costs you your tone control, I assume you have already decided you can live without that. Using a concentric double pot could salvage the tone control, however.
Your other volume control would need to be rewired so as to become a neck/middle volume only.
What you propose is doable, and has been done round here by several folks. Usually, this is done with the middle pickup, so that the bridge + neck gets the switching, and the middle pup is rolled in or out using the separate volume control. But the principle is the same, and you could easily adapt those plans for the bridge pup instead.
You also may want to look at ChrisK's "Free Neck On" idea, which could just as easily be a "bridge on". It's in the "schematics" section of this board, I'll post a link separately in a minute (due to computer issues, can't seem to run 2 copies of my browser at once w/o a crash)
Great NEWEY, Ok, i get it, there can be only one(highlander the movie remember master volume
i dont use my tone control, prefer to have a compromised setting on my amp so dont really care about losing that.
Ive checked the FREE NECK ON schematic and see how the principal is the same.
Im thinking about when i would actually be playing with a setup like this and wonder if i would get a bit frustrated, the reason being, when i play , i switch sounds quite a lot, (i also teach guitar for a living) and im imagining everytime i want position 1. NECK, im going to have to go to the bridge volume and turn it all the way down, the when say i want position 3.MIDDLE+BRIDGE ill have to roll it all the way back up again! up down up down! and the fact that where the tone control is positioned at the moment on the tele its not really in the the most convienient place for quick access.
What a moan! i know. I just want this to be a guitar for life so i want to get it right first time
So, could i install a switch between the master vol and bridge vol that would switch the bridge off and on?
i did think about having a push pull pot for the bridge vol so i could pull up the vol to add in the bridge as well as it being a vol control BUT.......... theres nothing as quick as karate chopping a switch for speed
Any thoughts would be much appreciated, thanks all
Im going to be away for the next few days so if i dont reply then ul know why, but please dont let that stop any of you from posting any ideas
