Hi dude, and WELCOME! to GN2 The wiring should not be essentially different from any similarly configured guitar. But actually wiring an archtop can be tricky ... better have a look at this excellent post by our resident expert lpdeluxe. I hope that helps! D2o

Hey man, thanks a lot! I went to the seymour duncan website and I´ll be using one of their diagrams, cause somebody did a crapy job with this guitar, using an incredible amount of wire and doing some weird connections. For example, the hot from the jack is not soldered directly to the three way switch....i think it goes trough several or all pots and then it goes to the switch.....is this ok? Cause the guitar has too little output. great forum!

But no such luck ... doh! A quick look at two of the most popular guitars in the world reveals two different wiring configurations. Les Paul(ish) wiring goes from the jack to the switch (I assume your guitar has two humbuckers, and so the wiring you describe is not out to lunch). Strat(ish) wiring goes from the jack to the pot. I'm not sure why you have too little output ... D2o

DDB- Hello and Welcome! First of all, are you sure this isn't actually a Hohner? I've never heard of a "Holmer" but I can see where it might read that way if the decal was a bit munged up. As far as a lack of output, while it is possible that a poorly done wiring job might contribute to low output, in an older guitar I would tend to suspect a pickup gone bad. Usually, wiring either works (you have output) or it doesn't (i.e. dead, or dead in one or more settings). For diagnostics, try ChrisK's Brain scanning through a nostril procedure: Brain Scan

That's what we can call him ... good - "dude" just wasn't working. By the way, there possibly is a "Holmer" brand of guitar (I've never heard of them either). Oh, and DDB, you may have noticed that I accidentally mixed up the what connects to where in my previous post, but I am sure you got that it varies by guitar. D2o

I have been trying to decipher the guitar´s brand....its actually a new guitar, the name its not messed up. I think its just a crapy brand, like a copy of Hofner or something jajaja. I´ll try to send a picture to clarify the mistery.... How can I put a pic in here? Jajaja, I guess duendeyerbero is a bit long.

DDB- Posting imagesPhotos would be helpful. I'm a little curious, it's a new guitar but you indicate the someone did a crappy wiring job? I originally thought you meant it had been rewired by someone, but now it sounds like you're saying the factory wiring was a crappy job? D2o's right, rewiring a hollow body is a tedious proposition. I've never done one, I find that I value my time more than my guitar tech guy values his time.

I guess someone messed up the original wiring. The guitar, altough is new, was taken to a guitar tech that "fixed" the switch because it was not working. So I guess the crappy job was done by this guitar tech, cause it would be very weird that this kind of work was done by the factory, although is not impossible, considering that is a cheap model of an unknown brand jaja. I dont no, it could have been anybody.... the photos are coming soon, maybe tonight

If the tech messed it up, why not have him rectify the situation? Oh, and I get it now "jaja" = "haha" (laughing ... got it) I guess your guitar could really be any brand ... Holmer ... Hoyer ... Homer ... who knows? We'll look forward to seeing the pics (take one of the headstock) D2o

Hey guys, as promised, here are a couple of pics.. jajaja, a BIG one! and here´s the one with the brand. It is a HOLMER! (altough HOMER would have been awesome!) Oh, and I didn´t went to the guitar tech to fix it because I wanted to learn how to do the job.....man and it is a LOT of work..... I got one more question..When I look at the diagram, the one from seymour duncan (2hb, 2 vol, 2 tones, 3 way switch) the pots from the left are actually the ones that go in the lower holes, cause they control the bridge right? Just a minor confussion...

DDB-
I don't see any pots in your photo, so I can't tell which ones are "to the left". Normally, in this type of 4-pot configuration, the two holes closest to the strings are for the Vol pots, with the bridge vol to the rear and the neck vol towards the neck, with the respective tone controls in the "lower" holes.
But since you have it apart, you can put them wherever it suits you- that's the beauty of customization. For example, if you use the tone controls a lot but keep the volume pots full-bore at all times, you might prefer the tone controls closer to your hand.
Of course, you are limited by the lengths of wire attached to the various pots, unless you are undoing all that as well.

DDB, Holmer, eh? Cool! now we can call you "homey", and you can call us all a yo' "peeps"! Thanks for not posting a GIANT pic, but I think we might actually need a URL (www address) that links to a GIANT pic because - as newey says, I don't see any pots in your photo. The problem is I am not clearly seeing much of anything in your first photo. I wonder if you can take a high res pic of the top (electronics) - like your first pic - and post the URL ADDRESS ONLY - i.e. don't use the {img} www, blahblablah, com {/img} command, just give us the address (e.g. i402.photobucket.com/albums/pp109/duendeyerbero/GEDC0011.jpg ) so that anyone interested can click on it and view the pic as up close as desired. Thanks, D2o

I actually see four pots (but no dead people - "The Sixth Sense") in your picture. I don't know tho', DO they come from the bridge? I think that having the volume pots toward the neck end and the tone pots towards the other end, with the bridge/lead one of each toward the lower bout makes sense. Now, how are you going to get them back into their holes..... I know, you'll attach thin fishing line thru the appropriate hole to each pot/jack shaft/barrel.

Nevermind about the pots, the diagram was very clear about it: The bridge pots go in the lower holes of the guitar, and the neck pots go in the upper holes of the guitar (I mean it picturing the guitar in the seated position) and in the diagram they appear the other way because it´s showing us the back side of the pots, and you eventually have to turn it so the "front" side of the pots are facing up instead of down. When you do that everything falls into it´s place. Nevermind......jajaja. ...And yes! I´m going to use some thread to put everything back in place. Right now the guitar has nothing in but the neck pickup and the ground wire. I just have to solder three more wires and then I´ll begin putting stuff in....tomorrow....

This was my first big wiring work, what a test of fire!! But everything worked just fine. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D Anyone willing to take on re-wiring an archtop as their baptism by fire is a true guitarnut in my books. Well done, homey! +1 D2o
