Im trying to add 2 more sounds to my stock strat, Neck/middle(series) and Bridge/middle(series) while maintaining the original 5. I also would prefer to make as few changes to the appearance as possible. I drew up a diagram of a possibility... but im a complete amateur, so would that work? If not, any other ideas on how to do this?

I have a design that does this but it's fairly complicated since it also does phase reversals. 3 Single Coils and The "S-None Switch" for the traditional Strat 5-way switch. I think that I might redraw it as only the series mod to a standard strat. I don't know when I'll complete it, but if it takes too long, you can have your money back.

m2p100- Hello and welcome! We'll get you some assistance with this soon, as ChrisK notes.

(Relatively) normal Strat wiring; The addition of the S-None switch (it does aboot the same thing as an S-1 AmDlx Strat, but only uses two poles, so it can't be as techno'whizzy).

Thanks that helps a lot. ;D So does that mean that my way wouldn't work? And what did I do wrong? Just trying to learn

Hi, very clear diagram! But I got one question....What is this "S none switch"?? Is it a push pull pot? And if not, can this mod be done with a push pull pot?
Thanks!

DDB- Yes. Look to the aft tone pot in the second diagram above. A Push/Pull pot is simply a pot with a DPDT switch grafted onto its hiney. An S-1 switch is a more capable switch, but rare and expensive, hence ChrisK's designation "S-none". And Matt? You're with us 6 hours and you change your name? "M2p100, we hardly knew ye . . ." ;D

I 'ave no idea. Your hosting site is blocked by my VPN ("imageurlhost"sounds like way too much fun) so I can't see your diagram to begin with.
I'll see if I can fix your link for visibility. Nope, I can't.
It is a play on words as in "The addition of the S-None switch (it does aboot the same thing as an S-1 AmDlx Strat, but only uses two poles, so it can't be as techno'whizzy)", hence the "S-None" monikerization (as in subset thereof).
Yeppers!
Or a DPDT mini-toggle, or a DPDT push button, or whatever form a DPDT comes in.
I put it on the bridge tone pot since it was at the "lonely" end of the wiring chain. The actual switch can be on any pot or not.

Changed it... Did that help?

Yes. The problem with your design is as follows; The DPDT switch switches the signal return of the middle pickup from the guitar ground to both the bridge and neck pickup's signal output. This will effect the following combinations; 5. (Neck + Bridge) 4. (Neck + Bridge) 3. (Neck + Bridge) in series with Middle 2. (Neck + Bridge) 1. (Neck + Bridge) Unless one is especially fond of the (Neck + Bridge) combination, I'd look for additional versatility. If one actually is especially fond of the (Neck + Bridge) combination in lieu of the Middle only, consider my version based on the Schaller MegaSwitch"E" from StewMac. Since the 5-way switch switches the signal outputs from the pickups, the signal return side of the Bridge and Neck are the more opportune places to do the series/parallel structure, as I and other's before me have done. While Mike Richardson (see below) did a design that used both 5-way poles to effect this, my variation was to eliminate the dead selection in Middle/series while preserving the other pole for tone control uses.

Ah, I see. Thanks so much for the explanation and diagrams Chris. I think your "S-none swith" is exactly what im looking for.
