Hi, just rejoined the forum, was on the old one before the hacking. I have a Strat. that I put in 2 Seymour Duncan SH'59 humbuckers. While they sounded nice they had an annoying click that developed when playing the strings, I imagine it is some form of static. I have wired many PU's in the past but this sound is a first. in the end I went back to the old Strat PU's which I had soldered in and out years ago. In retrospect the soldering is a bit rough, could this be contributing? I am about to build a Tele Deluxe with 2 H/B's and was going to reuse these. Any advice would be appreciated. Clive

Clive1-
Welcome to GNutz2!
I take it switching back to the original pickups solved the click? It's doubtful that a solder joint would do that, usually you either have a connection or you don't.
When you had the '59s in there, was the "click" present in all pickup positions?

When did the click happen? (eg, like when touching soething?) could it be that the pup cases or strings were not grounded, or perhaps connected to hot instead?

newey and John, Yes the click was there in all positions and I tried various amps, it didn't make any difference. The click was percussive and linked to the plectrum striking the strings which is why we thought it was static. Apart from that the pickups sounded fine and didn't hum, feedback or shriek. I forgot to mention that I used a heavy wire to wire it up, the stuff electricians use rather than the fine electronics stuff used in guitars. Clive

Is/was the problem occurring with a plectrum as well as when playing with, say. fingers? Might make some sort of difference...?
Also, sometimes an unusual amount of treble (also found with newer strings) in the signal, especially with slightly microphonic pickups, can cause the pickstroke to come through as an audible click. Are the pickups potted?
