I sure could use some help. I have old EMG's-the FT Tele set -that I had installed when I was an infant. Now, it's almost 30 years later and I put the original parts back into my '76 Tele and I've built a Tele and tried to install the FT's . They don't have the plugs for easy connect and I have effed up ! The wire shield has to be grounded to a pot and the inner wire pulled out and attached to the p/u selector I THINK . If anybody has experience with wiring the old style EMG's w/a presence control pot for the tone knob, I would definitely be grateful. I had it connected but the sound was way, way thin so I know it was wrong. I'm not a total imbecile but I already know how I should have made a drawing or photographed it. It's too late for that now ! Can anyone help ? EMG customer service just sent a diagram for the new plug-in types so that wasn't helpful because the plug-in doesn't show how to ground to the pot. Thanks !

Sorry, I had to move your post, but it really belongs here, with the general wiring questions.
I am assuming these are the active EMGs, since you mention a presence control. I don't have any experience with these, but if it's not working correctly, you're going to have to take it apart anyway (at least, removing the control panel). Some photos of the wiring may help.

What are the EMG FT Tele pickups? Are they active pickups (i.e. with a third V+ wire)?

Assuming you have the same active EMG Tele pickups I have, go to emginc.com,then support, wiring diagrams, browse all and close to the bottom of the page you will find T TC Set Instructions. That diagram should work for you.Good Luck!

limbe- Hello and Welcome! Thanks for the info on the EMGs. Unfortunately, the original poster of this query hasn't been back since posting this in March, so I'm not sure he'll see your answer. But we hope you'll stick around.
