i did the 13 sound mod from gfs on a strat copy, which was easy enough, as i had a diagram. for this i used my favourite sounding pickups, they are from a fretlight guitar. (fg200 i think.) anyway i was going to solder in some seymour duncan single coils thinking they are better because they are alnicos... and then took a look at these ones i do love in this guitar. they in my mind sounded great but are ceramic. anyway these fretlight ones have a little metal bassplate on each. when you open it up there is a very small magnet, that seems ceramic coloured (dark) and has the wire wrapped around it, this is all under wax. it's more like a lipstick or firebird then? it has far more high tone than a usual strat pickup. what is this type of construction called? there does not seem to be the usual bobbin.

Prolife- We had a similar discussion about oddly wax-potted Strat pups a while back, in connection with Ozboomer's SPlender mod. You'll have to scroll down about ¾ of the page to get to the discussion of the pickups. His were (apparently) the stock pickups from a Chinese-made Squier Bullet. Take a look at the pix in that post, on page 3, of the odd single coils. Are yours like those?

i had no luck with that switch of mine. do you know the connections to make on the switch at the bottom of the page you linked to? neck, middle and bridge are fine. common is hot or ground? the other 2 are tone? unless it doesn't work...

PL-
A while back, ChrisK advised me to check every component, even brand new ones, with a meter before installing. That advice has, over the ensuing months, saved me a world of grief.
You can't assume switches will work as advertised, defective ones show up every so often.
You should check all the lugs with a meter, make a table of "what connects to what", and this will quickly tell you if the switch is bad, and also how to wire it if it's good.
As far as how the switch gets wired in your particular scheme, we don't know because you haven't shared your diagram or photos of how it's wired. . .
