Hi Chaps
Ex-lurker is about to try posting some food for thought - if the pics come through...
I tried this when I began to refurb a Westone Thunder.
It's a unique (I believe) way to wire 2 pickups for an infinite fade between either pup and the pair in series and parallel.
Here's the basic wiring :
Looks totally bizarre - so consider the two pots at their extremes.
This combination gives both pups in parallel - with the two pots in parallel with the combination.
Here the pups are in series & each pot is in parallel with its own pup:
Here the bridge is "shorted out", leaving just the neck:
And likewise the bridge is left if the neck is "shorted":
Of course it also needs a volume pot rather than just take the signal to the output jack. I also added a phase switch to one of the pups - shouldn't matter which since it's relative phase that counts.
This will hum if tried with simple hot&earth wired pups.
The two pots act in combo, so you have to learn how to adjust them together.
Anyhoo - I found some interesting tones with this rig and would be curious if anyone wanted to try this a bit more scientifically.
Love the site & have a quick peek most lunchtimes.
Such a relief that I'm not the only one who only part-learns songs and gets a buzz from chopping guitars.
