I have been drawing for a while, trying to get a wiring chart that makes sence, and I just can't do it. I've done some research, so now I come to you.
I am wiring a self-made strat rip-off, and it is my first build. I've never replaced pickups (my Godin and Schecter were stock with great pickups), so I need some help.
What I want is a SDBR-1 (duckbucker) as a neck pup, SL59-1 Lil' 59 for a bridge pup, one master volume, a 3-way pup selector, a solo switch (to go around the master volume, I play at about 6 or 7 for rhythm'ish leads), and a switch that will allow me to put the pup's out of phase when I use the middle option for the selector (both pickups).
Could somebody help me with this wiring?
Edit: If it would be in parallel I would prefer it, but whatever you can do.

wow, thanks for the help. I had difficulty finding a 2 pickup 1 volume w/ 3 way selector diagram. my only problem right now is the 3 way selector. I don't understand how they work, so if somebody could give a description of them, I would appreciate it. I am trying to hand draw the circuit to show to a local electrician, to see if it would work. I will try to get it scanned to my computer to post on here, too.

There are different styles of these, so if yours doesn't match up with the ones shown, you may have to test it with a meter to find out which terminals connect to which. Also note that, insofar as we're talking about the terminals, a 3-way lever switch is the same as a 5-way lever switch- thus, ChrisK's diagrams refer to "3/5-way" switches. You don't describe wanting anything more in the way of pickup selection tan the std "neck/both/bridge" 3-way layout. You want a solo switch and a phase switch. It is easiest to visualize this if you think of the solo and phase switches as being separate sub-modules, as Angelodp shows them. The phase switch goes between one of the pickups (you choose which one) and the selector switch. The solo switch is like a freeway bypass running past the Vol pot. |

I think this will be the final question. The SLSD-1 (lil '59) is a humbucker, and shows that the red and white are soldered then taped together. the SDBR-1 (duckbucker) shows that the red goes with the black to the pickup selector, and the white goes with the green to ground. How should I wire the pickups? should I put the red and white together for the lil '59, but separate for the duckbucker? it's just the two pickups. This is really confusing for me. Also, where do I connect the wires to on the selector? For two pickups on a 3-way strat-styled selector, do I put the bridge pup wire where it would go for a 5-way 3 pup selector, and the neck pup where the mid pup wire would go on a 5-way 3 pup selector?

Don't worry, that's my normal state around here and I've hung around for a year and a half that way.  Since you do not indicate a wish to split the coils of either of these pickups, just wire them up as SD shows. The Duckbucker white and green aren't really "separate" since they connect together at the ground. There is a wiring diagram on the SD website under Tele diagrams that shows 2 humbuckers wired to a 3-way switch, your setup will be similar (although not identical because the duckbucker is a bit different than a regular HB). You can adapt it from either this diagram or the one Angelo posted.  |
