hi, due to space issues, does flipping a pup so the wire feed side is reversed ( the little bump ) cause any issues with polarity ?? This is in the Bridge spot. I am talking a 180 spin of the pickup.

Hi Ange, It does not cause any polarity issues that I am aware of. D2o You do mean rotate front to back, not flip top to bottom, right?

I don't know, maybe we should think this one through. After all, it might be that the whole "Paul is dead" backmasking fiasco started with a simple pickup rotation.

Jimi didn't seem to have polarity issues.

But he didn't turn the pickup around, just the guitar.
(And he has left the planet.)

But if you reverse the strings and flip the guitar . . .Oh, nevermind. No, I saw him the other day. With Elvis. In line at the Burger King.

I have had a couple more thoughts on this:
The wire in the pickups is either "wound" or reverse wound, no matter how you spin it - like the face of a clock ... it doesn't matter if the 6 or the 12 is on top, the hands still travel clockwise.
But a clock doesn't have a magnet on the bottom, and the magnet on the bottom of the pickup has a N and a S pole.
So my first question is whether maybe the magnet should be also spun 180 degrees so that the original N - which is now S - is N again.
I don't know, I'm just asking ...
This leads to a second (mainly unrelated) question:
Sometimes we run into situations where there is strat pickup of incorrect polarity - resulting in a thin 2 or 4 position (depending on what pickup we are talking about).
The quick fix is to swap the wires to mimic the correct polarity, but is often not as hum cancelling as the real / correct pickup would be.
In such circumstances, what if, in addition to swapping the wires, the pickup was spun 180 degrees as Ange is doing? Would that give the correct mimiced wire polarity plus the correct magnet polarity? (I realize that the magnet could also be removed, spun 180 degrees, and reattached)
Again, I really don't know ... it's just been in the back of my mind ever since Ange asked his question ...
... what better place to throw it out "there" than here?

Question is.... is the magnet polarity top to bottom or side to side. I believe its top to bottom on single coil strat pups. So the wind is not affected and the polarity is not affected. I think thats correct. And would allow me to snug this pup in closer on this tight spot.

Top to bottom.
Rotating the way describe does not affect the magnetic polarity. As they said above, you'll be fine.
