I have a "client" who has a similar LED mod, but his just go on or off... this one responds to playing - very cool. Any ideas about how this might be wired???

He's probably using something similar to a color organ, just with white LEDS. Another possibility is that he used the guts of an LED VU meter.

I suppose the two ways to get this done are to use a small microphone (like the color organ), or the actual signal of the pickups like this guy: gogoj2.tistory.com/86A video of him installing one of the "sound sensitive" LEDs is here:

No, you wouldn't want the electret mic on that color organ kit in your cavity. I was assuming pulling the mic and just wiring it to the output from the pups.
I have also seen this sort of thing done with a clear Strat pickguard, painted on the inside surface with a "frosted" clear finish (matte clear would probably work), with colored LEDS in the cavity. One can also get more sophisticated light organs where different colors are lit depending on the sound frequency.

Only point I can think of is spending the money on beer that you would have otherwise spent on a lighting technician... ...but then again, I'm getting older too...and apparently there doesn't have to be a point to that, either....

(no offense, quarry) Exactly what I was thinking ... especially the last bit.
