I'm in the planning phase for the electronics on my Prodigy. I love the PRS 5-way on two humbuckers, I find it to be versatile and every sound is useful. However, I also like Gibson's individual volume/tone setup, which I was planning on doing with concentric pots.
From my hazy memory on the subject, though, because of the way you have to wire the individual coils of the pickup to a PRS switch, is it even possible to have individual volume and tone knobs? Or do I have to settle for masters?

I don't know exactly what type of switch PRS uses, but I assume it's similar to the Schaller Megaswitch "P", which Schaller claims replicates the PRS functions. Schaller Megaswitch "P"If that's what the PRS version is like, my thinking is there's not enough poles. You would need to use a separate pole of the 5-way to switch in/out the individual V and tone controls. A 4P Superswitch could probably handle the job and then some. But, hey, maybe someone else has a better idea than that. |

The Schaller Megaswitch "P" is exactly what I was planning on buying. I love the sturdy construction of great feel of the Megaswitches. I actually had one in the Prodigy with its original HSS setup. However, that pickguard fell prey to me... that guitar was my testbed for a lot of different ideas I gleaned from GN, so there's all kinds of holes cut for switches I don't plan to have on the new project.
I hadn't thought of a Superswitch, but the way that thing works is greek to me at the moment. I'll do some research.

On further reflection, I'm not even sure a superswitch would work, since in positions 2,3 and 4 use coils from each pickup, both set of V & T controls would be operable in those positions.
LP-style guitars, and similar designs, wire the pots across the pickups "upstream" of the switching to avoid interaction of the pots; you can't do that it the switch itself is being used to switch the pots, as in a Strat.
If you had a 4-pot design like an LP, the brute force solution would be to use dual-gang pots, and give each coil its own half. But since you're talking concentric pots and only 2 holes, that's out.
On the other hand, whenever I say that something can't be done, someone comes along with a design to prove me wrong, so maybe we need more input here.
