I have an older Samick Les Paul copy that for some reason makes a hell of a lot of excess (unwanted) noise. When i play a note and release it, the sound plays on through the other strings until i mute them. I cant figure out what causes this. I love the guitar but dont play it much due to this. Please, someone, help me enjoy this guitar!?!?!

V-dub:
Sorry to move your thread, but it really belongs here, where all manners of electrical problems are solved. The "pickups" board is for discussing the relative merits or demerits of different pickups.
Although "microphonic pickup" was, in fact, my off-the-cuff first guess.
Assuming this is like a regular 2-pickup LP, do you experience this with either pickup, or just with one?
Another thought: If it's with both pickups, how close to the strings are the pickups? Too close will often give weird effects (and not pleasantly weird, either).

yes, both pickups. And i tried sinking the pickup into the guitar AND raising the strings some to no avail. Its like the vibration of the string ive selected to sound travels through the bridge and causes the other strings to vibrate. Hammer ons are a F******* nightmare!!

I actually had a Samick LP-ish guitar not so long ago. If I recall, the pickups were very low output on mine - in the neighbourhood of 5K - and they were not very snug in the guitar either.
I put electrical tape in the little gaps between the pickups and the body - for a different problem than you are experiencing, but which may also alleviate some of your woes. I also wonder what would happen if you replaced the pickup mounting springs with surgical tubing - maybe it would mute any vibration a bit?
Similarly, I guess you could try putting a very small coat of rubber cement between where the pickup covers contact the pickups, if you have pickup covers. I'm only guessing on that one, though.
Who knows if any of this will do much, but it's easy and inexpensive to try these as first steps before resorting to potting (or perhaps replacing?) your pickups.

EDIT: Also, how is the bridge attached on this thing? Are there any loose fitting components, connections, bolts, etc? And is the nut in good shape and secure?

I don't know, but the way I'm reading it, this sounds normal.
I've always played muting the strings I'm not playing, because they ring when the vibrations from the played string makes them vibrate.
Does it still ring when it's unplugged? Maybe I'm just REALLY misunderstanding you....

idk. this is really hard to explain. say i play the 7th fret on the A string, when i pick my finger off the fretboard, it sounds like im still holding the string down. None of my other guitars do this. Is it the way the bridge is made?

ay i play the 7th fret on the A string, when i pick my finger off the fretboard, it sounds like im still holding the string down.Oh Gawd, I shudda guessed.... That's your playing style. When you lift your finger, you aren't lifting it all the way away from the string - or else you're slow about it. Either way, you're producing the harmonic by barely muting the fundamental as your finger moves away from the string. I'll bet this doesn't happen nearly as strongly on other frets, excepting perhaps the 5 th and 12 th. If it's not happening on your other rigs, then it's either you don't do things the same way (different guitars and all that), or the pickups on them are not nearly as sensitive as these are. That's my guess, anyways, hope it helped. sumgai

Idk. I've neve had this issue with other guitars. This is the only guitar I have with this style pickups (the humbuckers with the metal covers) and this style bridge. I think it's something to do with the bridge. I'm not sure.
