CM - this seems like a good scheme. I dont know if anyone else built it, but fobits said that he did, and ChrisK liked it.
There's a possible bonus: It should be possible, if you use a DPDT on-on-on, to get extra single coil tones in the middle position, for positions 1 to 3 of the 5-way, in addition to the parallel and series ones listed.
cheers
John

You mean just replace the on-on with a on-on-on (wired differently) Good idea, i'll keep it in mind, thx

I concur that you could use an On-On-On to get extra single coil sounds at positions 1-3. Not sure I follow you on swapping the leads left to right to avoid hanging coils, maybe I need a diagram to visualize that.
We would first have to specify the type of On-On-On switch- whether it's one of those "staggered" connection types or not.
As far as adding single-coil sounds, position 2 already has 2 single coils, in either series or parallel. If you short one of the 2, you may be duplicating the sound from either 1 or 3, depending on which coils were omitted. Ideally, you'd have BN, BS, and NN as the 3 single-coil choices, but I'm not sure that's what you'll get.
I thought this scheme was interesting, too. That's why I included it as one of the questions in the Year-End Quiz!

Was thinking the same thing earlier today, If you have the two humbuckers in parallel, and short out the inner coils, its the same as the two outer coil. So your only getting two extra sounds of single coil of either neck or bridge. Couldn't you wire the on-on-on the same as here www.1728.com/guitar.htm (look way down)

ChristoMephistoHeck that is my site. If you want to know more about coil-cutting there's a whole page about it at www.1728.com/guitar7.htm

You got a great site there. With your alternate wire for the bridge, I managed to figure out how to apply the tone pot/coil cut mod and also switch it to local series/parallel. Attach the third lug to the dpdt where two lugs are linked together. Guess like where you have your spdt switch. This gave me three pickup options with one p/p tone pot
