Thanks to the help I received on this site, I'm happy to announce that my experiment splitting a two-wire humbucker was a success! 
Wish I could post pics of my mini-strat that I've now modded with both a killswitch and a coil splitter. I got brazen and tried to split the coils on a wax-potted two-wire Ibanez JTK4 pickup which is now a paperweight. By the time I pulled off all the wax and the tape, two extra wires popped out of the pup and I couldn't figure out which was which. Oh well, at least one guitar is ready for sale on eBay.
