I have installed a 3 way pup selector on a Jazz base . In the center position with both pups on the volume is reduced . Why is that happening ? More importantly what can be done to change this effect and still get pup selection ?
The Jazz Bass wires it's pickups in parallel. On a regular six-string guitar, this combo is known to slightly reduce the overall volume level, empahsis on the slightly. On a bass, the reduction is much more pronounced. As you've noted.
The easy solution would be to wire the pups in series. That's known to increase the output a bit, and on a bass, you'll probably describe the new sound as "more punch.... much more punch!" ;D
