Trying to wire up a Lil Puncher in the neck of my tele and use a on-on-on to get series/outer coil/parallel, and a p/p pot for phasing. Found this one at SD... www.seymourduncan.com/support/wiring-diagrams/schematics.php?schematic=series_spl_parallel-w-phaseThe only problem I see is whens it OoP and in SC mode, its the outer coil OoP, and the inner is shorted. Looking at JH's LP and Borsanova's wiring, they use the inner when OoP but they're using a simple coil tap and not a series/split/parallel switch. Is there a way to get the inner coil when it's OoP? It connects to a 5-way switch (n,n+b,b,b+cap,b>n) and the bridge pup is a SD Broadcaster.

Christo MephistoIf I understand you correctly, you want one coil to cut when it's in phase and another coil to cut when it is out of phase. I have a feeling that what you want would require two SPDT switches instead of one DPDT on/on/on. If you want, you can read about coil cut switching on my site: www.1728.com/guitar7.htm

Hi Christo The reason I draw the phase and coil cut switches the way I do is so that when you swap phase in single coil mode, it changes to the other (magnetically reversed) coil out of phase, which keeps the hum component unchanged. So then if there is a similar arrangement, or a single coil pup at the other end of the guitar, hum cancelling is maintained where possible. Is it similar reasons in your case? When it is just a coil cut and phase, the two wires that join the humbucker coils together can remain connected, and the phase switch only needs to act on the two outer wires and so can be a dpdt. When series, parallel and phase are involved, with selection of the coils, there is more movement of wires needed to reconfigure the connections, so more switching is needed. Wolfs version is a simple wire up, and would be three switches once phase is added. For a two switch set up, i think there will be an answer with a 4pdt toggle for phase, followed by the dpdt on/on/on toggle for series/single/parallel. So no push pull option that i can think of right now. Or.. You might like to consider a part of this design, the awesome HBD, which Runewalker and I worked out: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=nutzoid&action=display&thread=3778The design is for two humbuckers, and each one has a 4pdt toggle and a push pull. The 4pdt is a standard two-position switch, and has the function of selecting 'Two coil' or 'One coil' modes. In Two coil mode, the push pull then selects series or parallel wiring, both in phase. In One coil mode, the pp switch selects (up) north or (down) south coils, and when up, the coil selected is reverse phase. So between them, these two switches select 4 options, being Series, Parallel, South coil, or North coil reversed. So you get an OOp function, but only in single coil mode. But I think that is enough for Oop. It simplifies the switching by avoiding fiddly three position toggles, and allows one of the switches to be a push/pull so reducing drilling. cheers John

I suspect this is a Superswitch, or at least something other than the std Strat "5-way", based on the selections you have. If so, could you live without the "B+cap" at position 2, and use that for SOOP?
Then 2 P/P pots could be used in a binary tree fashion, as wolf has shown, to give you the choice of coils plus series/parallel on the Lil' Puncher. No further drilling required, if that makes a difference.

Thanx for all the good replies, was hoping there was an alternate way to wire the on-on-on to over come this, even after scouring lots of sites on coil tapping and humbucker switching, including Wolf's which I have bookmarked. My control plate has three holes from previous modding (JH's LP or Bosanova style) so adding a 4pdt switch could work, but the electronic stores don't carry a variety of stuff and would take too long (& $) to order one online. Its a lot of switching and fiddling with p/ps to get a certain sound. Thought about using the megaswitch and the two p/p system for picking coils, but you would only be using the inner coil when the 5-way is set to SOoP. Instead of the inner coil in phase, when selected it's OoP, but in phase when parallel and a regular 4-5 way switch. But think it maybe easier to just forget about local parallel and POoP options and keep it simple. Use the 3-way for series/outer/inner OoP.
Thanks again for your help...
