Hi, yew... and welcome to GuitarNuts2 I have a four wire humbucker , and i would like the ability to switch between series and parallel and to have a phase switch. One of the most useful things to read is wolf's guitar wiring site (look for the "Humbuckers" heading) - where you'll find a diagram to do the series/parallel switching you're interested in. It also includes a diagram for generic phase reversal... ...and many basics of how humbucker's work are currently being detailed in the Humbuckers 102 or How I (Hope to) Split My Coils.. thread on GN2, which may also be of interest... as well as John Atchley's thoughts on the subject (he started-up GuitarNuts, the original site, y'see). So, between all these, you might be in business... if you want. ..but it might be worth a wait for a bit, as I understand wolf is working on a new humbuckers page for his guitar wiring site. HTH John

I think I've just been very stupid a) when using a series/parallel switch, it is identical to having the circuit in either series, or in parallel b) hence a phase switch on one of the coils should not effect the series/parallel switch, as it only changes what's going on in a single coil (for some reason i was thinking it would switch the output of coil a, and the input of coil b around) c) it doesnt matter if the circuits meet during the series/parallel switch, as they would meet in a normal circuit. d) it may be time to fire up the ole' iron Yew ps; i might be wrong, so could somebody say if this is correct

I didn't think you were very stupid. If you feel you were, you can rest assured that you no longer are. You are correct. The phase switch just switches between "in phase" and "out of phase", therefore changing the sound of the pickups you have selected - not how the pickups are connected in series, parallel, or some combination of series and parallel. Fire it up! D2o

I didn't think you were very stupid. or some combination of series and parallel. is that what i heared some people talking about putting a capacitor on one of the coils when they are in parallel? so increase the highs, as you would have the full signal from one humbucker, and just the highs and mids from another.... i may have to add another switch to my guitar or replace the phase switch if i get bored of it

Okay, ive wired it up now, good news is the phase switch works in parallel, and sounds good as i have adjusted the polepeices to there is some actual sound coming through the amp :0 bad news is that ir doesnt work in series, ill be checking my wiring some time to try and ammend this
