hey guys, I have an idea to improve all aur guitar skills and share ideas. What we do, is we get a backing track. (maybe somebody has an old one laying around, or can find an open source one) then we have to write and record a solo on top of it. at the end we could have a poll to see who did the best solo If anyone is interested, then pop a reply in. also if you have a backing track, drop us a line Note for admin; This might fit better in the coffee shop part of the forum, but here is kinda right too, move if you want

While I think your heart is in the right place, I don't think that the nuthouse could ever have a competition of that sort.
Now, maybe if we were all to record a solo on top of a couple different backtracks (everyone does a rock, blues, country, pop, surf, reggae, exc.), then we were all to give constructive criticism on how to improve upon the genre, I could see that happening.
Also, this could fit nicely under many catagories. Including this one.
(just a thought, an open tuning solo?)

Well I don't have recording gear, but have at her! Some A/D/E blues sound tasty right now....

Would these A/D/E blues be of the 12 bar flavour? Im tempted for some of that too

Of course it would be a 12 bar blues progression.
Or possibly an 8 bar progression....

I will not be participating in this event, but I could strip the PotLuck Blues Jam back down to drums and (with cynical1's approval) bass if ya'll want some place to start.

Fine with me, Ash. With only 4 strings at my disposal I will regretfully have to withdraw...

Back on the original Blues Jam thread, I think it was generally agreed that, after one version was in the can, if anyone else thought they could improve (nay, even to vary . . ) the Jam- then have at it! So, let's hear it!

For the sake of brevity, it might make more sense to grab the last fast part for a solo competition.

I don't know about anyone else, but I, for one, would love to hear a bass solo...if that is what you are talking about c1. I am also a little leary of a competition, but I AM curious to hear what results would come of this, no matter the theme, or instrument, for that matter. Oh, and for that matter, if I could ever finish something like this (I am not a very good player) you should play my track first. That way, everyone else sounds better. So you could say, quite truthfully, that I make anyone sound like a pro .

Hey, I just learned Ba De Da by Fred Neil. Actually, Mark Lanegan's version is my fav. Its a neat progression, I play pent. major over most of it, but I think if you know about modalities and all that, there's some interesting stuff you can do. F E A D G C A D D7 I set up a loop of the riff and ripped over it for about 45 min Wul, anyways, just a suggestion of a riff to solo over
