I have taken on my first real guitar project. Basically I received an old Harmony Strat-style electric with shotty electronics for free. I then sanded the old sunburst job out and am currently in the process of finishing it in natural (swamp ash body). I have in my possession a Fender Strat middle-position pickup and 2 Duncan humbuckers. So far I have ordered a a Fender 5-way Super Switch, a new hsh black pick guard, a 500k pot with capacitor, and a 500k push/pull pot. I also could get a toggle switch to fit the other hole (possible cut-off switch). Basically I'm looking for ideas on how to wire it. I would like to be able to have the push/pull make it act as HH or SSS. I have looked all over, and have only found things similar that they have added a ton of unnecessary things. Thanks in advance guys.
I would like to be able to have the push/pull make it act as HH or SSS.
Not sure how that would be done. A p/p only has 2 poles; you'd need to use one pole to short the HBs to single coils, both with the same pole, and then a separate pole to switch the mid pup in/out. I'm not sure you can use one pole to short both HBs to single coil.
Let's see what others can come up with- I think I can visualize doing this with just 2 poles, but I'm not sure.
What is the 5-way superswitch going to be doing? IOW, if the P/P always selects HH in one position, and always selects SSS in the other, then your 5-way is never "in the loop", so to speak. But if the 5-way is activated in one position of the p/p, then you won't always have HH (or SSS, depending on which way you wire it)- the P/P wold give you whatever is on the 5-way in one position, so you'd only get the HH if that was an option on the 5-way switch, and if that was selected at the time on the 5-way.
I understand you want to go from a HH LP-type sound to a SSS Strat sound with the flip of just one switch, but it's not so easy to see how this would all work together.
Could you live with the 5-way switch having to be in one position for the HH/SSS switch to be activated? I think that might work, emphasis on the "might".

Ok I think I may have just found something that is VERY close to what I want. The only difference would be my middle position single coil.
Any ideas on how the single coil would be wired? And for general info not already stated: the body has a pooled route, so all pickups will fit, the middle pickup is a fender, and the humbuckers are a cheaper set of 4-conductor Seymore Duncans.
So, most of that just went over my head. this is something close to what I am trying to do -
Would this in theory be able to have the strat config and an LP config at the push (or pull) of a pot?
I have been thinking about the same scheme too, but the problem is in pos 3 you have middle pickup in strat while having 4 coils in parallel in LP.. I am out of ideas to make it work.. .( Thanks to JohnH ofc).
