Hi All,
Here's a quick question -- I'm currently rebuilding my Strat Pickguard. All the diagrams I've seen show the ground wire from the bridge connected to either the volume or tone pots. Can I connect the bridge ground directly to the Jack ground? I don't see why not, but I've never seen any diagram that does this.
Logically, ground is ground, right? So it shouldn't matter...
Thanks!

ddd, No, you're correct, it doesn't matter where you connect the bridge plate's ground wire (or the vibrato claw, or whatever). Electrically it's all the same as far as the circuit is concerned. Given the above statement, now you can ask yourself - do I really want to run multiple ground wires out through that tiny hole to the output jack? HTH sumgai

Actually its still just 2 wires going through the jack hole -- I'm using a shielded cable for the signal/ground from the volume pot. I really dislike soldering to the back of pots -- just looks messy to me... Moving the ground wire cleans things up a little and makes removal of the pickguard easier (for more mods!) Thanks!

..... Moving the ground wire cleans things up a little and makes removal of the pickguard easier (for more mods!) Ask JFrankParnell about his "modular" scheme, where he can remove just a part of his Strat's pickguard, and then disconnect a bundle of wires that are hooked together with a small, multi-pin plug-and-jack assembly. Sounds like you'd appreciate that one. ;D HTH sumgai

Well sumgai since you mentioned JFrankParnell's modification, I figured I might as well show one of my own: I believe JFrankParnell's is more complicated but sometimes a simple solution can still save a lot of work. Yes, just removing 4 screws is all you need to remove the "pickguard" (or the part that a Guitar Nut™ wants to get at). None of that string loosening or string changing is necessary. ************************************************** Edited to Add: Here's the link to page two of that pickguard discussion: guitarnuts2.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=wiring&action=display&thread=5005&page=2
